Stolen Dutch bikes sold in Belgium

Thousands of bicycles stolen every day in the Netherlands disappear across the border and turn up for sale in Belgium, Germany and Spain, according to the Bicycle Theft Centre, which takes into account reports from Dutch police, government and insurance companies. "It's a big problem that we're pretty powerless against," says the centre's project leader Mojgan Yavari. "It's worrying that organised criminal gangs are now involved in bicycle theft, and the numbers in question are substantial."
