STIB fares to go up in 2014

12:36 01/10/2013

STIB’s board of directors yesterday agreed a new fares schedule for 2014. Most tickets and season tickets will increase slightly, the Sudpresse newspapers report today. Season tickets for children, students, OAPs and people on benefits will remain unchanged, however. A ‘Jump’ single ticket will now cost €2.10 instead of €2, a 5-journey card  €8 instead of 7.70 and a 10-journey card €14 instead of €13.50. For Mobib users, the price of a single journey will cost €2.10 instead of €2, and a  10-journey top-up will cost €12.50 instead of €12. Monthly season tickets are up too, reaching €49 in 2014 compared to €47.50 now, while an yearly season ticket will cost €515 instead of €499. Season tickets for the two ‘airport lines’, bus routes 12 and 21, are to be scrapped because "they do not seem to meet the need of the passenger." The new fares schedule will now be submitted to the government, which must approve or reject it before the end of November. Under the proposed 2014 schedule, fares are up by an average of 2.69% and are expected to yield an extra € 5.2m.
