STIB to ban alcohol at workplace canteens

22:37 20/12/2016

From January 1, employees at Brussels public transport operator STIB will no longer be able to consume alcohol in the workplace.

Alcohol has been on offer to employees in STIB canteens, however. A recent email sent to all staff members emphasised the transport company’s new zero tolerance stance on the matter.

“It is an obligation to be put in place to avoid addiction problems. This is reflected in a collective labour agreement,” said STIB spokeswoman Françoise Ledune.

STIB employees will still be able to celebrate the end of the year with a drink among colleagues, granted that they have permission to do so from their head of service, and that they don’t resume work later that day.
