speed up residence permit extension

Question

Non-EU here, residence permit expires next week and need to travel outside EU in 2 weeks.

Applied for extension at commune 2 months ago. Every time I inquire about progress, I get the reply that the ministry still hasn't sent them any 'instructions.'

Is there ANYthing I can do to speed up this process and make sure I get the extension on time? Commune seems to think our only option is to sit and wait.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Can't you use your passport?
Or, is there any reason for the ministry to have delayed things?
Normally, these are replaced quickly

You can also ring the immigraton office and ask for the status- they do speak English

Get your employer to write in Dutch/ French to both the commune and IBZ (get fax and email info from the relevant websites). Fax and email the employer's letter to both the commune and IBZ. Letter should include your nationality number, state when you handed in the renewal application (i.e. when you first visited the commune) and state that due to work reasons you need to go outside the Schengen area so they should kindly hurry up so you can take your business trip.
