Spain remains most popular spring holiday destination
More and more Belgian holiday-goers choose sun over snow for this year's spring break, which officially starts on Saturday. Spain, and in particular the Canary Islands, remains the most popular flight destination at both Thomas Cook and Jetair. For ski holidays, the two leading tour operators report that France is the number one destination, writes De Morgen.
Jetair this year recorded about the same number of bookings for spring break as last year, including 27% to sunny destinations, and another 27% to skiing holidays. The rest of the reservations are for city trips and short holidays by car.
In terms of air holidays, Spain remains the most popular destination at Jetair, good for nearly 60% of the bookings, followed by the Dominican Republic and Morocco.
“Because of the negative travel advice for Tunisia and Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh this year, those countries are no longer in the top five," says Jetair spokesperson Hans Vanhaelemeesch. They've been replaced by Florida and the Cape Verde Islands.
This spring holiday, Thomas Cook saw a slight increase in the number of bookings compared to last year, says spokesperson Koen van den Bosch. The most popular destination remains the Canary Islands, followed by Morocco, Cape Verde and Egypt.
For both tour operators, France is traditionally the most popular destination for ski holidays, followed by Austria and Germany.
