someething to do
Hello! The sun is shining, people are leaving for holidays, and Im feeling springy. Want to shed the winter blahs and would like to try a new sportish thing. So, what would you suggets for someone who is not sportive and is not terribly fit but very eager and open? Is there a place this weekend I can try, one-off, some rowing? Rock climbing? badminton? Must be open to curious beginners and be reachable on the public transport, but other than that I am flexible!
Did somebody mention rowing? Only one place for that, the Royal in North Brussels. Friendly mix of locals and expats, beginners and internationals, teenagers and pensioners. Public transport a bit of a schlep but perfectly doable (tram 3 or 7 then bus 47). Contact me at (my user name) at gmail dot com or check out www.royal1865.be. Your life may be about to change!
For beginners we have a programme of four supervised sessions for €30, refundable if you subsequently join up (full annual subscription €200). Initially you should make a rdv with one of our monitors for a first session. Once you get the hang of it you just turn up on spec to one or more of the regular weekend sessions at 10 and 2 (plus Summer evenings) and are sorted into crews. Most of the English speakers go on Sunday morning. You won’t normally fall out of a crew boat or a training single, if you progress to a racing single you’ll quite likely have a falling-in at some stage, it’s no big deal.
You take Tram 3 (>Esplanade) or 7 (>Heysel) to the stop 'Heembeek'. There you change to bus 47 (there is quite likely one sitting there, it's the terminus) and go 5 stops to 'Chemin Vert'. From there it's a short walk down the hill to the canal and the club is to the left past the orange sheds. I'll try to set up a rdv for you, mail me at brusselsrower@gmail.com and I'll get back to you.
