So who will be on strike tomorrow?
Following an appeal by the European Trade Union Confederation, a Europe-wide strike is expected to take place tomorrow, November 14, in protest against austerity measures being implemented in many countries. The action will take various forms in each country. In Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal, it will take the shape of a total public sector Strike, while in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, unions have called for “awareness-raising actions”.
Significant disruptions will take place:
•on the rail network from 22.00 tonight, for 24 hours – Thalys trains could also be affected;
•on the TEC (Walloon bus) network all day tomorrow;
•and in many state-owned companies such as Bpost and Belgacom.
Information sessions may take place in some primary and secondary schools, and strike action by teachers has not been completely ruled out. People are strongly advised to seek alternative arrangements, especially with regards to commuting.
