SNCB to continue late train service from Brussels
SNCB/NMBS will not scrap post-midnight trains out of Brussels as of December 14, as originally announced. The Belgian rail company will continue to offer trains from Brussels to several Flemish cities after midnight.
The new transport plan presented by SNCB earlier this year caused uproar among many Brussels cultural institutions, as it called for no more late trains from Brussels to Ghent, Antwerp or Leuven. That would make it difficult for visitors from outside of Brussels to return home from concerts and theatre performances, for example, at a time when many cultural venues are working to pull in more visitors and encourage them to use public transport.
The final version of the transport plan, however, does include late trains to Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven, Bruges and Ostend from the capital. Only the late train to Limburg will be scrapped from the schedule, with the last train from Brussels leaving for Hasselt at 23.00.
