Smartphone app registers train delays

12:08 21/11/2012

A maths lecturer from Namur and one of his students have created a smartphone application that allows frustrated train users to register train delays – and claim compensation by the same token. The Late for Good application, devised by Professor Renaud Lambiotte and Vsevolod Salnikov, is free and, in just a few clicks, updates a database and generates a reimbursement form ready to be presented to train operator SNCB. The app also follows the movements of users who registered on http://www.sci-app.com. SNCB offers financial compensation to any passenger who experiences 20 delays of more than 15 minutes; as a result, Late for Good will automatically create a form after the 20th delay, containing details such as train number and destination. No personal data will be stored, the developers say. Late for Good currently exists as an iPhone app only; an Android version is in the pipeline.
