smartphone 12 yr old - prepaid card/telecom subscription

Question

Hi all,

My 12 year old daughter wants a smartphone for her b'day.
Could any of you please advice me on which prepaid card / telecom subscription offers the best price for the amount offered.

I don't want to spend more than 5 euro to 10 euro's a month on this but she would like to have unlimited or at least a lot of sms capability.
Thanks in advice for any recommendations.

€10 bundle is best cheapest rate.
However, you ask "Could any of you please advise me?"
Yes, do not get a 12 year old a smart phone!

I agree with you. I'm not for it myself. 16 seems a reasonable age for a smartphone to me, but what about peer pressure ? What can you say against the argument "everyone in my class has a smartphone mum except for me" (and they all do .. - one of them even has the new iPhone 6 apparently, crazy ..). I don't want her to be the odd one out as peer pressure is a tough one to beat at that age.

I would be inclined to talk to other parents. Firstly to confirm that "everyone in my class has a smartphone" is accurate and also to find out what packages other parents use.

I have a 13y old son. He's also had a smartphone since last year. He goes to a flemish secondary school in Brussels and I have to admit that most, if not all, of the kids have a smartphone. Quite a few of his friends even have iphones. He has a jim mobile subscription which costs 15€/month and includes unlimited sms and quite a bit of phone and data usage. It's possible to get quite a good deal on a smartphone with this subscription (see their site for more info). And yes, I totally agree that 12/13 is young for a smartphone. It sometimes seems like these young kids turn into teenagers overnight once they go to secondary school. And the girls... from what I see from the 12/13 year old girls around me they seem to constantly be on snapchat, facebook, etc. I'm so happy that my son (like most of his male friends) isn't really interested in social media. Hope this helps you a bit!
