Shrek and Fiona get hitched… in Charleroi
A couple from Charleroi has had a particularly colourful wedding, by getting married as Shrek and Fiona. Pascal and Nancy Dampremy, 40 and 36 respectively, got hitched at Charleroi town hall, dressed as the ogre and ogress from the Dreamworks franchise. "They are characters we both like and, with figures like ours, we were never going to be Popeye and Olive", the groom told the Sudpresse newspapers. Their nearest and dearest were privy to joke too, meaning that Puss in Boots and Donkey were in attendance too. Before going ahead with the Shrek scheme, the spouses received reassurances from the commune about the legality of the proceedings: "I contacted the authorities to inform them of our plans,” Pascal Dampremy explains. “They had to make a few calls - obviously, this was the first time it had happened in Charleroi. Finally, they got confirmation that it was indeed possible. The only thing was that our faces could not be hidden, so we had to opt for makeup instead of masks."
