Should I start a company this year?

Question

I am about to start a business.
Would it be best to wait until January, to avoid the cost of one year returns?

The benefits would be mostly writedowns - but I am not rich before in January. How difficult would it be to get invoices dated this year, but pay next years (It must be a lot of people buying cars that have this issue).

Is it possible to have writedowns without a return?

(A standard response is "ask an accountant" - but I do think at least for the costs people who have done it themselves have a better idea)

With the Christmas holidays in two weeks, even if you start the paperwork today it is unlikely that the business is officially established before January. Problem solved :)
