Sharp decrease in Belgians caught speeding on French roads

12:46 06/08/2013

Some 53,000 Belgians were caught speeding on French roads in July, a 39% drop compared to July 2012, when 87,000 had fallen foul of French speed cameras. According to automobile association VAB, there were 14% fewer road accidents in France in July 2013 than a year earlier. Belgian motorists who were caught speeding in France last year received their fines in the post very quickly, which made them show more respect for French speed restrictions, a VAB spokesman said. It is on the A31 motorway that Belgian drivers are most likely to be caught speeding, especially the stretch between Metz and Toul, where the speed limit is 90 km/h.
