Seven dogs a day go missing in Belgium

10:46 14/01/2015

A total of 2,678 dogs were reported missing or stolen in Belgium in 2014, 8.5% less than the previous year. It is the first decline in 10 years, reports Het Gazet van Antwerpen.

On average, seven dogs disappear in Belgium every day, and the vast majority of them are stolen. The most coveted breeds in 2014 were bhihuahuas, border collies and Jack Russell terriers.

According to Dog ID, a new database for the identification and registration of dogs, there were 2.9 million dogs registered in Belgium as of January 1, 2015, a record high. It is the first time that the list of the country’s top 10 best-selling dogs does not include a breed with a reputation for being dangerous, writes La Dernière Heure.
