selling car for export

From time to time I find on my windshield cards from companies that buy cars for export, and they make the procedure sound very easy. I am no longer using my car and want to sell or scrap it, as it has a few mechanical problems.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of companies? Did you find them trustworthy and was the selling process simple?
