Second Belgian reactor has indications of cracks
Belgium
13:33 14/09/2012
Electrabel, Belgium’s largest electricity producer, informed nuclear safety agency FANC on Wednesday that the nuclear reactor at Tihange 2 is showing indications of the same cracks in its core tank as those found in the reactor Doel 3 near Antwerp, which halted its activity for this reason last month and will not reopen this year. With two of its seven nuclear reactors at a standstill, Belgium has lost approximately 10% of its electricity supply. Electrabel, however, insists that even without Doel 3 and Tihange 2, there will be enough electricity produced and imported to see its customers well through the coming winter.
