Schuman Lights Up: Green energy nights illuminate the annual festivities

16:39 05/12/2022

Schuman Lights Up kicks off for a fortnight of festive winter cheer from 5 to 19 December with a new programme of eco-friendly activities.

The illuminated marquee installed in the middle of Schuman roundabout hosts three green-themed evenings, each presenting aspects of the European Green Deal, on 12, 13 and 19 December.

During this trio of events, Toyota Europe provides the prototype Toyota Mirai Full Cell Vehicle to produce the electricity needed to light up the Christmas trees and the illuminations in the marquee.

As ever, the annual event organised by nonprofit Schuman Square shows off the cultural diversity of the EU quarter aimed at fostering a community spirit. It invites partners to host colourful international initiatives, from Italian, Czech and Ukrainian to Welsh, Scottish and Congolese.

Various embassies, regional offices and NGOs lay on a feast of food and drink specialities. Additional entertainment in the form of dance and music ensure that this sparkling venue is the place to be in the EU quarter in the busy pre-Christmas season.

The majority of events are free and open to the public, but space is limited, so it’s best to arrive early.
