Saisie-arret execution sur le loyer

Question

I have received a registered letter from the tax authorities initiating the procedure for a saisie arret on the rent due to the owner of my apartment. It appears that he has outstanding tax payments. Could anyone please explain the procedure, what do I have to do and does it affect my rights to continue living in the apartment?

J

There should be a phone number on the letter. Ring them and ask them.

I'd expect they will tell you that it means you pay your rent to them and not to the owner.

It means the owner will not be able to pay a lawyer if he takes you to court.

I hope your deposit is in a blocked account.

I, for one, wouldn’t fancy continuing to live in a rented apartment who’s owner has enough outstanding tax payments to constitute a “Saisie-arret execution sur le loyer“
This of course would mean that any rent that you do pay doesn’t in fact go to the owner but goes direct to the tax authorities until the debt has been recovered.
Personally, for me this would most certainly make me want to move out and find another apartment.
As with 'J' I hope your deposit is in a blocked account.
