safety for solo female living - luxembourg station, brux

Question

Hi, I'm moving to Brussels from Leuven and found a nice flat right next to Luxembourg station in the EU area. It seems like a nice enough area, with a very few amount of people loitering during the day, or at least today. i'm familiar with more jourdan and its immediate surroundings which is pretty cosy and I know Brussels isn't too dangerous a city as long as you're being sensible and staying out of midi/nord at night. However, as an asian woman living and often traveling alone, I have been harassed and assaulted in Brussels (more so in city center, and in Leuven). Wondering if others who know this area can give me just some honest feedback about safety in the region for a street smart but still small asian (american - does it matter?) lady!

Thanks!

All of Brussels is generally safe as far as serious crime is concerned. A municipality like Molenbeek might not be pleasant, but walking around there I've never been afraid of being murdered or robbed.

For the more 'petty' infractions (vandalism, harassment, cat-calling if you're a woman, etc.) you should expect plenty of it compared to Leuven. Brussels politicians are generally very lax and laissez-faire, more concerned with placating their voter base than with crime.

The EU area should be fine, though. As I (and HANDY MAN) said, the people who run Brussels are all about keeping their electorate happy, and that's an upscale area.
