Risk of traffic disruption in Brussels on Friday evening due to cycling event

17:22 25/01/2023

Brussels Police warn on its Twitter account of possible traffic disruption on 27 January due to an evening cycling event, reports Le Soir.

The Critical Mass cycle ride starts at 18.00 near the Royal Palace at Place du Trône and finishes in Avenue Rogier in Schaerbeek.

Describing itself as "half-party, half-demonstration", the monthly bicycle ride-out occurs on the last Friday of the month. Its name denotes the compact group that participants form in order to ride safely in city traffic.

But PolBru’s tweet incited some criticism of the action. One user wrote: “It’s time to start checks of these ‘bobo’ cyclists… with their used tyres, no respect for traffic regulations, traffic lights, holding alcohol on the handlebars…”
