Rise in number of nursing students in Brussels
The number of students pursuing a nursing degree from a Brussels institution has increased steadily in recent years, according to figures from the federal public health department. The course is particularly popular among women and non-locals, writes Bruzz.
In the period between 2008 and 2015, the number of nursing students in the Brussels-Capital Region increased by about 60%, from 419 to 678 students. The increase is almost entirely attributable to students enrolled in a bachelor nursing programme at one of Brussels' four Dutch-speaking institutions: Erasmus University College Brussels, Brussels Terranova, Odisee and St. Guido.
Brussels nursing courses prove particularly popular with women, who represent nearly 81% of the nursing students in the academic year 2014-2015. The students are mainly from outside Brussels. In the same academic year, only 22% of the nursing students also lived in the Region.
