Rise in cases of identity fraud in Belgium

The number of cases of identity fraud in Belgium continues to rise, reports De Zondag. In 2014 there were 4,669 cases registered, 260 more than the year before, according to figures that Belgian MP Roel Deseyn (CD&V) requested from interior minister Jan Jambon (N-VA).
The figures take into account identity fraud in the form of forgery or the use of a stolen or counterfeit identity card. Stolen identity cards have been used, for example, to open a bank account in someone else's name.
People whose identity cards are lost or stolen can call DocStop (0800/2123.2123) to have it blocked, or report it to the local police.
