The right type of insurance

Question

My partner is currently unemployed and we have yet to finalise our registration with the commune. They have demanded that we provide proof of health insurance before this is possible. However, it appears that to join a mutualité my partner must first provide proof of employment!

Aside from the obvious "get a job," are there any other means of organising health insurance? What, for instance, would someone self-employed do? Is there an acceptable minimum coverage?

I love the NHS.

I

The mutuelle thought I WAS unemployed and sent me a bill as thus, so you can indeed join a mutuelle whilst being unemployed, you just pay more for your subscriptions, as you're not paying social security.
.
Return to the mutuelle, or find another one.

I had the similar situation with my partner. To be able to insure your partner you need to ask at your commune the document "composition de menage", this document gives you right to include your parter under your insurance. that should suffice. As soon as you got the provisionary insurance, submit the document to the commune so they can process the residence permit.
Best luck
