Resort council powerless to prevent ‘gay cure’ evangelist

A  Dutch evangelist who claims to be able to cure cancer and homosexuality by the power of prayer has encountered protests in the Belgian coastal town of Middelkerke. Bert Bruinekreeft is in town for a two-week prayer camp in the centre of town. However, despite protests, the municipal council says there is nothing it can do. “We looked into everything, but we can’t stop him from coming,” said Middelkerke mayor Janna Rommel-Opstaele. “The tents are on private property, and until now we haven’t received reports of any irregularities among their community. Just how extreme they are, we’ll have to find out during their stay. In any case, we’ll be keeping a close eye on things.”
