resignation period

Question

I work for a small company so no HR and do not belong to a union. Where can I find out about my resignation period? Can I take my annual leave during this period as I am resigning? I know that if you are sacked any leave or sick leave is added to the period. Am going another job in another country.
thanks

The notice period depends on several factors (type of contract, length of employment, salary level etc.). As thumb rule for white collar employee with less than five years work history with the employer the notice is 6 weeks. If you have been longer with your current employer, or if you are in (higher) management position the notice is from 3 months up. More info here:

The notice period can be shorter if agreed between the parties. You can't take holidays during notice (or they will prolong the notice period), unless otherwise agreed with the employer. The unused holidays are paid out in the end of the contract.

You need to resign in written, either hand the letter to your employer and ask a signed copy back, or send the letter registered. The notice period is counted from the beginning of the calendar month following the date you give your resignation.

Sound advice from AO. To be more detailed, we'd need to know a lot more about the detail of your employment contract.
