residence card

Question

My questions are: is there any advantage to having a C category perm residence card over a B? When I get my new 5 year card, will I be 'upgraded' from a B to a C without even requesting it? Or should I go out of my way to see if I can get a C type card? and what are the obvious differences between a B to a C card?

CM

They are very different and have very different criteria for acceptance. There's an exhaustive description of the two cards here:

In terms of usability there is no difference between B and C card. A C card is given to Swiss nationals or some exceptions like that (not 100% sure) but the bottom line is that there is no inherent advantage of C over B. What is your ultimate aim? If its citizenship it does not make any difference if you apply while having a B, C D...etc To answer your other question you wont be 'upgraded' to a C but as I mentioned you might need to qualify for a C card and finally its not that a C card is better than B card. It all depends on what you want to use these cards for. Answering that would make suggestions better.
