Hi,

I just received notice today that my landlord has increased my rent and backdated it to last August. I'm living in the city centre in a 50m2 apartment. My rent is 775€ a month with an additional 142€ in charges. Does this sound outrageously expensive or normal for Brussels 1000?

Yes that is on the expensive side, is your apartment of particularly high spec? As for charges, depends on what is included - if not bills like hot water, then 917 total for 50m2 is very very very high! That's €`18.34 per m2 living space. We have a house in a very nice area of Brussels region, well maintained, we pay €10 per m2 living space, plus get a garage, caves and garden on top of the m2 living space.
