Red Devils to play friendly against Australia

11:13 08/08/2014

The Belgian national football team, the Red Devils, is scheduled to compete in a friendly match against Australia on September 4 at 20.45 CET in Standard Liège’s Sclessin stadium, announced the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) today.

The Red Devils fan day, planned on September 6, will take place elsewhere. "We will announce the location for the fan day as soon as possible," says KBVB spokesman Stefan Van Loock. The match and the subsequent fan day will not take place in Brussels’ King Baudouin stadium due to the Memorial Van Damme athletic event scheduled to take place there on September 5.

The fan day and the friendly match against the 'Aussies' are the Red Devils’ warm-up before the start of the European Championship qualification rounds which kick off on September 9 with an away match against Israel. The Belgian Football Association wrote a letter to the European Football Association (UEFA), making clear that it will only take part in the match against Israel on condition that the political situation there has improved.
