Rear facing car seat

Question

Hello, is someone out there who knows a shop in Brussels or around which sells rear facing car seats for kids?
I would appreciate a shop with advisory service and where you can test the installation in your own car.
Thanks for your help!

hi,
Do you mean car seats for new-borns/small babies? Then they need to be rear facing indeed and these include the famous maxi cosi, cybex,... which you can find in the baby stores in or around Brussels.

I suppose they could accompany you with a model to try it in your car when you visit them.
Hope this helps

Hi Sheen, thanks for your answer.
In fact I am looking for a rear facing car seat for babies/kids between 9 and 18kg.
e.g. HTS BeSafe, Cybex, Klippan, Axkid, Britax Römer ...

The seats for children from about 9kg - 18kg are designed to be facing forwards:

I don't know of any rear face seats for children more than 0- 13kg.

Hi,
we have two of such seats. One form Be Safe (the izi combi) and one britax. The Be safe one was bought in northern Ireland at this centre www.incarsafetycentre.co.uk - they offer very good advice even on their website.
The britax one was bought at a volvo car shop in the netherlands. So you could start there with your search.
www.oogappel.be - is the dealer of Be Safe in Belgium you could start with calling them about where to find the rear seating seats in Belgium.

i would advise that you go to a shop (in belgium, netherlands or uk) to test the seat as they take up more space than foreward facing seats. So you make sure it fits in your car and you are comfortable with it. If you have a large car (type SUV) than space should not be a problem though.

It really is much safer transporting childeren up until the age 4 in these type of seats. If you google the research you'll find quite a compelling case. My daugher travelled in hers up until the age of 3.5 years old and my son of 2.5 is in it now. Even with his sister next to him forward facing he does not mind at all and has not once asked for being turned forward facing.

Hope this helps.

okay

Rear-facing for older babies is pretty much impossible to buy here, but all the medical evidence suggests that rear-facing is best for as long as possible. I have a lot of friends who have bought carseats from http://shop.carseat.se/ and have been very happy with their purchases/delivery time/customer service. One thing to consider though, is that rear-facing seats take up a lot more room, so if you have a smaller car, there might be very little room for you in the front seat (since you have to push the seat up so much to accommodate the rear-facing seat) so take that in mind before buying. Good luck!

Hi!

I have one that I am selling. If you are interested you can come and have a look. I bought it in Sweden where it's common practice to place children rear-facing in the car until the age of 4.

The brand is MaxiCosy and it's suitable as of +/- 1 year of age, depending how much your child weighs. It's reclinable so that the child is in a comfortable position for napping.

We live in Tervuren, feel free to contact me on lenahatt@gmail.com and I could send you a picture.

Thanks for all your comments.
I will probably go for the Britax Maxway as I have a small car. And I might have even found a shop where I can see/test it before buying.

Hi Yoshi. May I ask where you bought your seat in the end? We live in the north of Belgium and are having trouble finding a rear facing seat (we’d ideally like to rear face up to 25kg). Do you know if the law/car insurance companies accept longer rear facing without question here?
