Public consultation on Chaussée d'Ixelles traffic ban

21:43 09/02/2017

A plan to ban daytime traffic from the Chaussée d'Ixelles from March 2018 will be put to a public consultation from Monday.

Comments are welcomed on the project for the next month, with roadworks scheduled to begin this May. Shopkeepers were shown the plans on Monday and residents on Tuesday.

Motor vehicles would not be allowed between Porte de Namur and Place Fernand Cocq from 7.00 to 19.00, Monday to Saturday, with the exception of taxis, buses and residents who have a garage for their car.

Pedestrians and cyclists would have more space. The Place Fernand Cocq would be completely redesigned and bus line 71 - the city's busiest - would run more frequently.

Ixelles mayor Dominique Dufourny said: "We've been won over by this big project, which will give a new look to one of the busiest shopping streets in the capital. The changes will make for a more pleasant setting for locals and will improve quality of life."
