Problem get passport from the embassy
Question
Good day everyone, please l need help. my wife and I are Belgian by nationality but born in Nigeria, we just had a baby here in the UK, we are both student here in the UK for 4 year now. l have called the belgium embassy but l was told it will take few years for the document to come through.
l also called the Home-Office, l was told because l don't have premier insurance when l came into the country my child is not entitled to passport.
Please what is the quickest way to get my baby a passport Belgian or Uk Passport. Thanks for your help.
Km is exactly right.
I think the home office is about to relax the health insurance thing. It might be positive for op eventually.
PS you cannot get a birth certificate in Belgium or at the Belgian embassy in London for a UK born child. It s a legal impossibility.
You are both Belgian, go back to the Belgian Embassy and for their advice. Your residence status in the U.K. is irrelevant.
I if the child isn't british by birth which its seems unlikely from what is said they have to registered somewhere . Yes they try and register in the UK but its unlikely they will be given a british birth certificate that is linked to nationality without some questions
CCR the child is born in the UK to non gbr but EU nationals who do not yet qualify for settled status and cannot backdate it partially due to health insurance. It s all explained above. However, the child indeed has a UK birth certificate and is Belgian at birth, just will take time to be documented as such due to place of birth. So of course the child has a UK birth certificate!
Op, read and react to this link to apply for settled status in UK. If you are successful, you can register your child as British under section 1 (3) of British nationality act 1981..
