Privacy commission gives drones green light
Despite considering drones intrusive technology, the privacy commission has given the minister of mobility Jacqueline Galant the go-ahead on her drone regulation proposal.
From a privacy standpoint, drones are more invasive than fixed camera or conventional aerial surveillance, says the commission, due to their ability to fly at higher altitudes and the difficult in tracing them. They also have the capacity to gather information through obstacles such as walls, roofs and clouds and can intercept signals, detect faces and register movements, says De Standaard.
The privacy commission found that Gallants proposal adequately respects privacy laws and commends the proposed training of drone operators in privacy legislation.
