Prince Laurent appointed UN ambassador
Prince Laurent has accepted a mission as goodwill ambassador for the FAO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, confirms a spokesperson for the Belgian Royal Family.
The news comes shortly after Prince Laurent’s emergency hospitalisation in Brussels on March 21. The Prince awoke from a coma on April 8, and was released the following day. If his health permits, the prince will travel to Rome for four days at the end of June as part of his new mission.
The FAO is a UN agency that is committed to social and economic progress for all, and proper management of the world’s natural resources. Sustainability and the eradication of world hunger are high on Prince Laurent’s priority list as UN goodwill ambassador. The Prince was chosen for his known commitment to environmental protection, according to the spokesperson.
