Popular bars/pubs in Brussels

Question

Hi All,

I've Just moved to Brussels (Woluwe-Saint-Lambert) on a temporary work assignment, and am looking for any decent bars or pubs to for out for a drink in the evenings. I don't really know anyone in the city at the moment, so want somewhere where I could go on my own (at least initially), have a drink and hopefully have the chance to meet other people!

Thanks a lot.

Welcome to Brussels!
I can highly recommend Scott's Bar near to Gallerie St. Hubert it has a random Cat on a Bike just outside. Failing that, I can also recommend The Black Sheep near to Place Flagey. Both International Bars with Irish bar staff.
Good luck and have fun!!

Also on Place Flagey is DeValera's. Irsh Pub etc. The other place to go is Place du Luxembourg, more specifically Fat Boys, lots of EU employees/stagiaires/people on short missions etc hang out there and its mostly English speakers. As for Woluwe St Lambert, that's where I live, and there is nowhere to go around there. Its most little cafés for locals, and besides that WSL is at bit of a bourgeois area, so not much night life. But Pl. du Luxembourg is probably your best bet.

Fat Boys (at least the one in Place du Luxembourg) has been closed for quite a while.

You could also try Brewdog near the central Station. It's pretty friendly - in a hipsterish kind of way - and a fair few English speakers drink there.

If you do go to Place du Luxembourg, try Thursday night, as that's the "aperitif" night there, with lots of places offering happy hours, and it's usually pretty busy from 6 pm onwards - although it's mainly a pretty young crowd.
