Pop-up picnic tables take over Brussels
In an effort to improve the quality of life in public spaces, Brussels association eQuama this summer launched European Canteen, an experiment involving the set-up of long picnic tables in public spaces across the city where people are invited to meet with friends and colleagues for coffee, lunch or a business meeting, reports brusselnieuws.be
The modular picnic tables, a total of 70 at each site with seating for up to 150 people, can be set up in different places and in different formations, such as around a statue, overlooking a pond or in the middle of a park.
This summer’s pilot project provides tables at seven locations: Square Frère Orban (Until 15 October), Square de Meeûs, the esplanade of the European Parliament, Leopold Park, Jean Rey Square, Schuman and Park Cinquantenaire.
