Police union president arrested on suspicion of fraud

11:10 03/06/2015

Gert Cockx, president of the police union SNPS, and his wife were arrested yesterday based on suspicion of tax fraud, conflict of interest, misuse of company property and bribery, confirmed the office of the prosecutor in Mechelen in Het Laatste Nieuws.

Last week the investigating judge in the case called for an inspection of Cockx’s home and office. According to one major source, the couple’s manipulation of an order of jackets and hats with the new NSPV logo is believed to be behind the disappearance of thousands of euros from the union’s account, writes Het Laatste Nieuws.

The union president and his wife will be brought before the investigating judge in Mechelen. Cockx, meanwhile, denies any wrongdoing.
