Police breathalyser ‘illegal’
Belgium
11:50 22/01/2013
A police court in Nivelles has ruled that the alcohol tester Dräger 7410 +, currently used by the Belgian police, is illegal, reports La Dernière Heure. The device is an all-in-one system that both tests and analyses the driver’s breath and was developed to make life easier for the police. The court pointed out that no list of approved models was ever published for devices of this type and denounced the fact that the device continues to be used by the police when it is not mentioned in the current legislation. A driver who tested positive after blowing into the Dräger 7410 + has, as a result, been acquitted. The Nivelles prosecution has decided to appeal.
