planes to Zaventeem over Brussels (Etterbeek) again
Dear xpats,
probably I missed the news and therefore it was an unpleasant surprise to hear the planes to Zaventeem airport roaring over the roofs again. In Etterbeek, they start at 6 am and fly in a minute or every other minute tact. And at night they stop 10:30 pm. Apart from being woken up and disturbed by the noise, I wonder how these flights are back again. Were there not a citizen's initiative and a court decision to finish them? Thank you for giving a piece of information. KR
The flights never stopped, the only reason they may sometimes not go over Etterbeek is down to wind direction.
There was a ruling by which the routes had to change within thirty days or face considerable fines, but that was last February. I never found out what changed with regard to that.
The last flight is normally the 23:40 to Moscow Sheremetyevo, the first 03:30 to Casablanca Mohamed V.
If the planes are not flying over Etterbeek, they are flying over Woluwe St Pierre, Woluwe St Lambert, Kraainem, Wezembeek etc.
If you live in a city with a major airport close by expect planes flying over. It is something we all basically have to live with I am afraid.
Earplugs cost next to nothing.
Problem is that every time the flightpath changes, so does the citizens action group whining about it. You'll never win short of moving outside one of the flightpaths.
