Pin code scrapped for small transactions

10:35 19/09/2013

Bancontact/Mister Cash is about to make it easier to pay small amounts with a bank card. The Proton function, previously used to make small payments, will disappear by the end of this year. To compensate, Bancontact/Mister Cash worked out an alternative: From 2014 it will be possible to make small payments of less than €25 without having to enter a pin code. This will be mostly available at unattended payment terminals, such as parking meters and candy and beverage vending machines.

Now there is something really good like Proton and they have nothing else to do then scrap it.
What's wrong with proton? It's easy, fast and very convenient and the most I can loose is the amount charged to the card.
Where are they making it easier? You still have to press a button, but this time there is no limit. So pressing the button 10 times could make you lose 250 Euro.
So that means from next year on I have to use my pin to buy a coffee as my coffee shop only has an attended payment terminal (like most shops, Bars and Restaurants).

I used to use it more often until it got dropped from parking machines and supermarkets.
I thought it was great for parking machines, much easier than trying to find the correct change.
