Physical Therapist

Question

I'm looking for a "kinesiologist" who is not only English speaking, but who is either Flemish or of British origin (not a French mother tongue speaker). Does anybody know of anyone - preferably in the area Auderghem or Etterbeek?

J

And what is the particular reason for this prejudice?

Do you have any preference for their religion or skin colour?

Hm, that's interesting that my question is perceived as prejudice...

The thing is that, although I'm quite fluent in French, I don't feel comfortable talking about medical issues in this language (that's why all my doctors in Brussels are either English speaking, respectively speakers of my mother tongue). However, with French speakers I prefer speaking French over English, as I just don't really like their accent. Please don't get me wrong: it's not that I don't like them personally (I know many Belgian and French people that I'm good friends with); I just prefer speaking to them in their mother tongue.

So now I need help from a physical therapist. Having lived and studied in the US in the health field, I feel most comfortable talking about medical issues in English.

So that's why I came to the conclusion that an English native speaker, or alternatively a Flemish person who speaks English really well, would be best.

However, if there is a only Wallonian therapist available who can really work in English, i. e. knows all the technical terms in English, I guess I could live with it.

As for religion or skin colour, I do not have any preferences at all!

"I just don't really like their accent"

Wow!

It's good to see that you have the right priorities when selecting your healthcare professionals!!

Good luck!

My priority when selecting a healthcare professional in a foreign land is to be comfortable with the language which will be used. I want to be absolutely certain that both parties understand what is being said.
I would NEVER opt for a French speaker in Belgium. My French is extremely limited whereas my Dutch is good and I can always be confident that a Dutch speaking professional will speak good English if necessary.

"I would NEVER opt for a French speaker in Belgium."

Amazing that you think that French speaking health professionals are so poorly educated that not a single one speaks English to your standard!

Jeez! Someone please report this (and my other answers) in the hope that this entire bizarre question is deleted!!!

Have a good weekend.

Yes, I think it's best if we delete the whole thread - nobody has given me any recommendations for an English speaking Kine after all :-).

Anyway, believe it or not, I'm actually now considering a French speaking Kine in my neighbourhood. She sounded really nice on the phone, and although she cannot really work in English language, I may just try it in French, even though I don't know all the medical terms. But learning never stops after all, and thus I should maybe do that to widen my horizon :-)
