Ozone alert threshold reached in Brussels
Belgium
12:52 24/07/2013
The European alert threshold for ozone was exceeded in Brussels yesterday in late afternoon, with a reading of 246 micrograms per cubic metre, while the threshold is 240 micrograms. Important physical effort should be avoided when the alert threshold is exceeded, warns the Belgian Interregional Environment Agency. The information threshold of 180 micrograms per cubic metre was exceeded on 27 occasions yesterday, causing problems to people “at risk” such as asthma sufferers. An exceedance of the alert threshold had already taken place in Aarschot, Vlaams Brabant province, where the ozone concentration reached 259 micrograms per cubic metre.
