Opening a bicycle lock?

Question

I've locked my bicycle and stupidly lost the key. It is an Abus lock, which supposedly is quite good. Does anyone know how I can unlock it now?? Get a locksmith? Or one of the bicycle thiefs?..

Thank you for any help :)

Luke

I have managed to drill out a lock years ago when I lost teh key to my shed -- took about 3 drill bits

I have heard that if you "freeze" the lock they can be broken with a sharp heavy knock (sledgehammer) - you can buy freezing sprays from plumbers merchants

I have also in the past used a good hacksaw to cut through hardened steel - again when I lost a key I hasten to add.

Locksmith a very expensive alternative.

Thanks, Luke. Looks like you've lost a few keys! All the options would be interesting, except that the bike is locked in a public place - I guess I'd get arrested before I manage to unlock it.

Locksmith expensive - how much do you think? The bike is a quite good one..

If it's an Abus one, you usually get given the key number with the lock and you can order a new one from them. But you also get two keys if I remember - have you had a really good look for the other one?
