Nursery shut down as 12-year-old girl left in charge of infants

18:14 27/02/2017

A daycare centre in Auderghem has been shut down for two weeks pending an investigation into claims that a 12-year-old girl was left in charge of supervising the young children while a staff member went to the post office.

According to RTBF, police were called last week by a neighbour who saw the supervisor leave and then heard children crying. When they arrived, the police found that two children had been left under the supervision of the director's daughter. It is reported that the staff member returned after about half an hour.

The Crèche BB Bulles, located on Avenue Jean-François Leemans in Auderghem, will be closed for 10 days, during which time the creche director will be questioned and a decision will be taken on further sanctions.

RTBF reports that the director has opened several childcare centres in the neighbourhood since 2001 - and the town council had intervened in the past over issues including food hygiene and fire safety.
