Number of Dutch students in Belgium on the rise

12:38 17/09/2012

The number of Dutch students enrolled at Flemish universities and colleges continues to increase, according to De Standaard and Het Nieuwsblad. At the University of Antwerp, the number of Dutch registrations rose from 658 last year to 917 this year. Ghent University also saw an increase, from 246 to 326. The number of Dutch students has been steadily on the rise for the last 10 years. Not only does the Dutch lottery system force students to opt for Flanders, but financial reasons play a role as well. On average, higher education in the Netherlands costs approximately €1800 per year, while in Flanders it costs about €600.
