Non-profit sector to hold demonstration on 10 June
LBC-NVK, the largest trade union federation within the Christian union ACV-CSC, has announced it will hold a demonstration in Brussels on 10 June to protest against the plans for the reconfiguration of the health care sector put forth by Flemish welfare minister Jo Vandeurzen. The union claims that Vandeurzen's actions will lead to “a downturn for the sector”, writes Bruzz.
The action is an initiative of the educational institutions that work for the welfare of troubled youth and the disabled. The union disagrees with Vandeurzen's plans to also allow unlicensed care providers to work with juvenile delinquents and persons with disabilities. "This leads to health care with no standards of quality, to the detriment of the offical institutions which have to meet strict quality requirements," says Werner Van Mierlo, secretary at LBC-NVK non-profit.
The union also feels that the sector's employer organisations should have to consult with the unions before revising the staff requirements.
