11:02 15/10/2023

The Belgium Cello Society hosts the second concert in its recital series at ULB’s Solbosch campus in Brussels  on 1 November.

For the occasion, principal cellist of the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, Sébastien Walnier, joins forces with duo partner Alexander Gurning, to serenade the audience with an evening of Strauss and Chopin.

On the programme: Strauss’s Romance for cello, TrV 118, Sonata for cello and piano, op 6, and Chopin’s Sonata for cello and piano in G minor, op 65.

The Belgium Cello Society (BCS), led by cellist and artistic director Han Bin Yoon, promotes and supports cello playing in Belgium. In 2017, the renowned Queen Elisabeth Competition presented the cello competition for the first time in its long history, instantly propelling the cello to the limelight in Belgium.

With the cello’s rapidly growing popularity and interest, the BCS hosts a multitude of activities all year-round, notably the biennial Brussels Cello Festival and Buchet International Cello Competition. The annual season of concerts and masterclasses continuously attract international artists and young talents to Belgium.

For autumn 2023, the BCS is organising a series of recitals hosted at ULB and Flagey. Tickets for the concert on 1 November are priced between €9 and €18.
