Choosing a notaire

Question

I used a notaire to buy my flat 5 years ago and am now thinking of selling. Do I need to use the same notaire or can I choose a new one? The old one was based where I used to live and wasn't very good at replying to emails/calls. However I don't know if they still keep documentation from the purchase that I will need for the sale and if this requires me to use the same guy. Does anyone know? Thanks.

You can use any notary you want. As for documents of the previous sale, either he gave you a copy or you can request them from him. In any case, the "new" notaire will have to do a due diligence on the property.
