Travel to the US - passport validity

Question

Has anybody here ever travelled to the US with a passport validity of less than six months? I just learned that there is a list of countries, for which the rule of at least 6 months validity does not apply, and my country is on that list. However, I don't want to run into problems at the border.

If you are travelling from Europe and your passport validity doesn't meet US requirements, you won't run into problems at the border, you won't be allowed on to the aircraft in the first place.

I would not risk it - and yes to Becasse's comment

anyway, you will have to do the ESTA (14 USD) first days / weeks before your travel https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/

According to US border control, my passport would meet US requirements (https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/assets/documents/2017-Dec/Six-Mo...), as my country is part of the "six month club", I'm just posting this question to find out whether somebody out here has practical experience with that rule. And I don't need ESTA, as I have a visitor's visa.

My son's passport was valid for less than 6 months when we traveled to Boston last August and it was not a problem. We were just not able to use the machines at the customs but had to take the longer queue with finger prints etc.

Come on, it's the official guidance from the US Customs.

"Citizens of the countries listed below are exempt the six-month rule and need only have a passport valid for their intended period of stay. "

What more do you need?

Just wondering why you would not renew your passport. You do not necessarily have to wait for it until the last day. In order to stay out of troubles when I moved to BE from non-EU I renewed my passport even though it had two years to expire. Time flies and now here I am turning 3 years here
