La Redoute plans stores in Brussels and Antwerp

22:07 26/03/2018

French e-commerce giant La Redoute is looking to open physical stores in Belgium - starting with Antwerp and Brussels.

The group, which specialises in fashion, design and decoration, began opening shops in France three years ago, where it currently has 11.

La Redoute already sells to Belgian customers online, but retail director Sandrine Guichard sees potential for a physical presence in Belgium from 2019.

"Shops bring human contact," she said. "For the customers, it is a plus to be able to see and touch our products. Online can be a bit cold as a sales channel."

La Redoute was a French pioneer in mail-order sales of textiles and clothing, first through local newspaper advertising, then catalogues and Minitel - the French precursor to the internet.
