Tree felling...

Question

Does anyone know why thousands of trees are being taken down along the motorways and main roads? Its happening everywhere....

Because they were potentially dangerous. The only alternative would have been to close the autoroutes.

All of them? Or has this become a case of a few were a 'potential' danger so the decision made to cut them all...?

Apparently a lot of it is the "Flemish Region", e.g. Sint-Genesius-Rode on the way into Brussels, or on the ring between Waterloo and Tervuren. They must have some new budget or something. I know in Rhode the "commune" are actually complaining to the "region" about it.

It is an appalling mess and whoever is in charge of it should be fired.

They have a tendency to fall in heavy snow. It may be only one in a thousand but there is no way of telling which one and they are a real menace in such circumstances.

About a month ago, a tree fell on the National from Jodoigne to Grez-Doiceau. The tree struck a car and the driver was killed. A lot of trees have been cut in that wood since then, and also in many areas along roads.
